Güler Sabancı is the chairman of Sabancı Holding, one of the leading and most reputable business groups in Turkey. She started her career at the tire manufacturing company of the group and held various roles at the other group companies. Mrs. Sabancı is the founding president of Sabancı University and also acts as chairman of the Sakıp Sabancı Museum and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sabancı Foundation, the leading private foundation in Turkey.
Güler Sabancı has been the first–and mostly the only–female member in numerous organizations like ERT, YPO, and TUSIAD. She also sits on the Executive Committee of International Business Council of WEF, Siemens AG Supervisory Board, United Nations Global Compact Board, and the External Advisory Board of MIT Energy Initiative.
She was named seventh on Fortune International’s “Most Powerful Women” list in 2016. She has received numerous awards including the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award, Clinton Global Citizen Award, Raymond Georis Innovative Philanthropist Award, and European School of Management Responsible Leadership Award for her leading work dedicated to empowerment of girls and women in Turkey.
Güler Sabancı holds an honorary doctorate from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a global leader in industry-university partnership.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER SERIES
Launched in 2016, the Brown Brothers Harriman Family Business Leadership Speaker Series at Columbia Business School welcomes global family business leaders to campus to share their unique perspectives and to interact with students and alumni.
